When I am doing a Linear set up, I see not only Offset but also X Offset...what is X Offset for?

Normal Offset would be the Y axis; X Offset is the X axis. If you will touch X Offset and then give the function some percentage, you will see that the center position changes in the X position instead of the Y position. This can also be used as a form or a sub trim, and will not affect the ATL.
